Many of you know Lou Kerner from his active days investing in domain names. I spoke with Lou few times since and for a while he’s been saying world is moving to Social Media, and that’s where it is these days. Taking it a step further, Lou has now put his own show out there focusing on Social Media and emerging technologies.

Google has recently released a Chrome extension called Personal Blocklist. Well, it’s been only few short days and the extension has some 60,000 installs.

And the first sites people are blocking? My guess it’s the many so called “expert networks”. There’s a whole movement started with this release of people who share blocked sites with one another.

If you install this extension you will see how easy and addicting it is. I installed it a couple of days ago and already blocked some 30+ sites, and the search experience improved like nothing before.

At some point Google may publish what users are blocking, and the results are going to be devastating to some companies. 60K today, and millions in the next 12 months. My prediction, this will go big, far and wide.

The big story tomorrow is that Steve Jobs is in the hospital for Cancer treatment. According to recent domain name registrations though, Steve Jobs seems to be already dead.

I sure hope these domains end up one day doing a well deserved justice to Steve Jobs, one of the greatest stories of our times.

Not directly related to entrepreneurs (many in the domain biz) but it’s an excellent story of our times. Well worth watching.

Yes, that’s me. I’m resting, relaxing. I spend less time trying to chase the dollars these days. A friend asked me if I’m going to Domainfest and my answer was “I have other commitments, like going to the beach and enjoying life”. Those who know me know this isn’t like me, but today it is. In 2003 we started massive development projects, most of which have failed or sold. With all that we also managed to make a living. We invested more in domains, saved a little for a rainy day. The world is moving fast, multiple waves everywhere, it’s hard to keep up, or more like impossible. When I started domaining I had no idea what I was doing, and no idea if it would work or not. I had no idea of the stock market, the dot com bubble, or the overall economy. I was blind to all that, and it was a good thing. So now, what to do? I don’t yet know. I’m looking, exploring. Last couple of years I’ve been building and exploring projects with few. Some I spent few days talking with, some I spent few months, even a year. I still do that today. I met Jeff (my biz partner) back in 1999 and that relationship is golden, and I believe I can find more such relationships, but it isn’t easy, and luck matters. With Jeff, we lucked out quickly and that built our momentum and future. Of course there were other ingredients, we got along well, but without that one break, would we be here today? I don’t know.

And as I think further about this wild ride, my business experience has been about having stuff people want, and about relationships. I will leave the “having stuff people want” alone for now but will focus on the relationship part. See, if you’re at it alone, you are bound to stay alone. You have to engage others, talk, take calculated risks, step back if it doesn’t work, and try again. Right now I’m starting new relationships, I pick up the phone, I call strangers, I say hello, I propose relationships. Do I know where this will go? Not at all, and that’s a good thing.

So this old dog is resting, no new tricks. I plan more trips this year, more Asia, maybe some other places, I don’t know. I didn’t know I’ll be here doing domains 11 years ago, and I don’t know where I will be a year from now. Maybe domainining, maybe on some island having a pineapple juice?

Not knowing - it’s good thing.

Now that we see this trend, what can we learn from it? What opportunities will this bring on? The obvious one, the email business is back.

Well 2010 was a very exciting year with many new projects undertaken but the main focus for 2011 will be development of many of the domains my company acquired over the past 3 or 4 years.

A focus on my ccTLD domains mainly in my home country of Australia will take up most of my attention & time.

Here are some of the domains that we will be working on in 2011 -
