Verisign Revises .TV Premium Offering, Sedo to Auction Premium .TVs

March 19th, 2010 Comments off

Verisign, the operator of the .TV registry, has revised the pricing of over 23,000 .TV domains and removed the higher annual renewal fees, so owners of premium domains registered after March 19, 2010 will only be paying the standard .TV renewal rate going forward. It appears that this new rate is however not extended to pre-existing owners of premium .TV domains. eNom has posted the list of new .TV premium prices on their website.

Sedo will be running a premium .TV auction from April 1-8, 2010 – the domains sold in this auction will also have the standard renewal fees, as Mark Klein (Director of Business Development at Sedo), who set up the auction with Verisign, told DNN.

.TV is the country code (ccTLD) for Tuvalu, but is marketed internationally.

Nominet Considers Release of One and Two Letter Domains

March 9th, 2010 Comments off

Following the course of other TLDs, such as .DE, Nominet has posted a document for their members and registrars proposing the release of single and double character domain names in the third level of the .UK domain (under co.uk, .org.uk, .me.uk and .net.uk). The release would exclude some domains that have been registered before the establishing of Nominet as the registry operator in 1996. According to the consultation, Nominet is considering releasing the domains in two phases: A first round for trademark holders, followed by a Dutch Auction (starting with a high price being reduced until a buyer is found, similar to the release of second level .MX domains).

The corresponding consultation runs for three months, from 8 March 2010 until 8 June 2010.  To provide your feedback, you can either complete the online survey or email your answers to shortdomains@nominet.org.uk.

Kevin Ham/Reinvent Not Involved in .CM any more

September 18th, 2009 Comments off

While many seem to bet on the potential traffic they may be able to get from .CM domains and the official .CM launch should be well underway today after being moved for several times, Kevin Ham and his company Reinvent have quietly retreated from the ccTLD and the wildcard causing all of the .CM domains to resolve has since been removed from the zonefiles.

Reinvent provided this official statement to DNN:

We are no longer involved in .CM wildcarding. There has been some suggestions that we could take advantage of the .CM wildcarding and register high traffic .CM domains. While we are in a position to take advantage of this, we have not registered one .CM domain. We no longer have any ties to Republic of Cameroon and .CM wildcarding. We wish both Cameroon and NETCOM the very best and much success.
