Never pay for phone information again! bye bye 411

July 30th, 2010 Comments off

Here's a number worth putting in your cell phone, or your home phone speed dial: 1-800-goog411 or 1-800-466-4411.

This is a great service from Google, and it's free -- great when you are on the road.  Don't waste your money on information calls and don't waste your time manually dialing the number.

I am driving along in my car and I need to call the computer store and I don't know the number.  I hit the speed dial for information that I have programmed (1-800-466-4411).  The voice at the other end says, "Say the name of the business and the City & State."  I say, "Tri State Computer, Matamoras PA”.  He says, "Connecting" and Tri State Computer answers the phone.

How great is that?  This is nationwide, US & Canada, and it is absolutely free!  Works on cell and landline phones, all you have to remember is 1-800-466-4411. Give it a try.

Click on the link below and watch the short clip for a quick demonstration.

PS; I will also be giving some other features of this in the next print issue's Gadget Corner...

.CO.LS and .ORG.LS: Latest domain additions from Lesotho at InterNetX

July 29th, 2010 Comments off

REGENSBURG – The German registrar InterNetX has widened its extensive domain repertoire to include another TLD from southern Africa. InterNetX now delivers global access to Lesotho’s online space with the subTLDs .CO.LS and .ORG.LS.

The parliamentary monarchy, landlocked into South Africa, is often called “The Kingdom in the Sky” on account of its high altitude and is famous for its unique indigenous culture and rich diamond deposits. The Internet business is picking up speed too, with an increase in websites and rising interest in the country’s TLD. It’s the perfect time to secure a piece of Lesotho’s online market and register .CO.LS and .ORG.LS domains – especially since there are no restrictions on the registration of these subTLDs from Lesotho.

As one of the leading international registrars – with more than 300 ccTLDs and gTLDs in supply  – InterNetX can offer numerous exotic TLDs alongside conventional domain products. Experts in the branch value the diverse range at InterNetX and use the opportunity to also register domain names with unusual TLDs like .CO.LS and .ORG.LS in the domain management software AutoDNS 3.0.

Typosquatting: The Business in Spelling Mistakes

July 14th, 2010 Comments off

REGENSBURG – Typosquatting can lead to substantial losses for businesses. One study claims that companies with highly frequented websites can lose as much as 300 million USD annually to typosquatting. Although there is some disagreement about the accuracy of this figure, it is an indication of the financial losses associated with typosquatting. The German company InterNetX, offers sound advice and practical features for companies not only to regain, but also to win web traffic and drastically lower their typosquatting losses.

Also known as URL hijacking, typosquatting is the practice of using misspellings, typing mistakes or alternative domain extensions to register a domain name similar to that of a well-known or frequently visited website. These are usually linked to pay-per-click advertising sites, redirect to competitor sites or occasionally even contain malware or phishing content. Whatever the case, the main objective is to draw traffic away from the website the user intends to visit.

InterNetX at 38th Public ICANN Meeting in Brussels

June 21st, 2010 Comments off
(REGENSBURG – BRUSSELS, June 2010) – This time the 38th Meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is taking place in Brussels, Belgium. As Brussels is home to the European Commission and the European Council, it is perfectly fitting that the .EU registry EURid is hosting the conference. From 20th to 25th June 2010, Internet experts and interested parties will gather to discuss legal and technical developments in the domain and Internet industry.

InterNetX GmbH is a silver sponsor of this ICANN event and is presenting its comprehensive TLD portfolio and innovative hosting-solutions. With more than 300 ccTLDs and gTLDs and over 2.9 million hosted domains, the German registrar counts as one of the leading Internet Services Providers on the international market.

The introduction of new generic TLDs, like .SPORT or .BERLIN, will once again be a major point of discussion. It is still not foreseeable when the first new TLDs will enter the market. The application procedure is still in project mode. The fourth and latest version of the Draft Applicant Guidebook will be up for discussion at the ICANN meeting.

One of the issues remaining to be clarified, for instance, is how much time the application process will take from beginning to end. The „Initial Evaluation“ can take up to eight months. Taking into account all necessary and potentially occurring operations, the whole application process could easily last for more than 18 months. There are open issues concerning costs as well. An evaluation fee of 185,000 USD has to be paid in any case. But this amount can increase significantly when it comes to additional evaluation or dispute resolution processes.

Even if all points under discussion are resolved in the near future, new gTLDs will probably not be launched before 2012. Applicants for new gTLDs will still have to put in a lot of time, patience and money until their investments pay off.

The 38th Public ICANN Meeting is taking place at the Square Brussels Meeting Centre in Brussels, Belgium, from 20th until 25th June 2010.

.CO Landrush: The race for .CO top domains is about to kick off

June 18th, 2010 Comments off

REGENSBURG, Germany – "Opportunities multiply as they are seized!“ What smart economic leaders obviously adopt from the Chinese strategist Sun Tzu works for the domain industry as well. The current launch of the new TLD .CO is such an opportunity. At the first public .CO auction the premium domain e.co realized the price of impressive 81,000 USD. Although the proceeds go to a charitable cause this result gives reason for hope to make good profit with .CO domains in the future.

The crucial phase for .CO domains starts with the Landrush period on June 21, 2010. Then interested parties worldwide can apply for attractive domains under .CO at one of the ten accredited .CO registrars.

T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Vancouver: InterNetX is Platinum Sponsor again

June 9th, 2010 Comments off

REGENSBURG, Germany – This time around, the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference is setting up tent in the Canadian metropolis of Vancouver. Vancouver is also known as “Hollywood North” and has for some time now, been considered one of the most livable cities in the world. It’s also home to a number of extremely successful domain investors. At the fourth T.R.A.F.F.I.C. conference this year, from June 8 – 10, 2010, decision-makers in the domain industry can get information about changes and chances on the current domain market, innovative parking solutions as well as possibilities for domain development and expansion.

The event will be paying particular attention to the Canadian TLD .CA, as well as the brand-new TLD discovery .CO, which is presently being launched and is already causing worldwide interest amongst Internet players in the current Sunrise Phase. “As the only European registrar accredited by the .CO registry, .CO Internet S.A.S., we’re naturally going to be there when a central event like T.R.A.F.F.I.C. turns its attention towards the market opportunities of these promising .CO domains. The coming Landrush phase, kicking off on June 21, will strengthen the interest in .CO,” says Hakan Ali, Director of Sales and Marketing at InterNetX. “However, the focus on the Canadian TLD .CA is also a major point of attraction for us. The domain market in Canada is increasingly developing and holds enormous investment potential.”

Daniel Eisenhut, responsible for International Business Development at InterNetX, will be presenting innovations in the field of domain registration. From the perspective of an exclusive .CO registrar, Mr. Eisenhut will also be passing on valuable information about the TLD launch for .CO.

Apart from the usual T.R.A.F.F.I.C. events like presentations, discussion forums and speed networking sessions, the domain auctions (including .CA domains and hot premium gTLDs) will be stirring up a lot of interest and profit.

T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Vancouver is taking place at the Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside Hotel in Vancouver, Canada, from June 8 to 10, 2010.
