What I love and what I hate about Facebook Advertising

April 12th, 2011 Comments off

Facebook is a powerful marketing medium when you have the right consumer product. It lets you target your budget in a completely different way than Google does. Let’s take a look at how WatchBrokers.com can be advertised.

If you login and click on “Create an Ad” on the right hand side of your default Facebook page, you’ll get a form that needs to be filled out. Scroll down and look for the Likes & Interest box. Try entering a few different things and see how the estimated reach changes.

As of the time of this post, Facebook has 140,499,680 people in the United States that you can target. If you narrow that focus specifically to people that have like or expressed an interest in Rolex that number drops to 23,400 people.

That’s targeted advertising.

You need to have the right product, though. I don’t think many people would “like” or express an interest in something like Pay Day Loans. In fact, only 80 people have.

The worst part about advertising on Facebook is that other people in the office think you are surfing facebook when you have it open in your browser. I find myself explaining to employees all day that I don’t use it for fun.

Panerai Ferrari Edition Ref. F6657

February 2nd, 2011 Comments off

It’s getting increasingly hard to find the time to blog but I’ve got to force myself to do it. That’s the conclusion I’ve come to, anyway.

I think it’s been about a month since my last post. I’m going to go back to trying to do one per day.

Today I wanted to share with everyone the Panerai Ferrari Edition Ref. F6657.

What’s exciting about this piece is that we so very rarely see them. Panerai owners love their watches. It’s a very hot brand and these can sometimes go up in value right after you’ve purchased them.

While we get dozens of Rolex’s in every day, these just don’t show up often.

The Panerai Ferrari Edition is large with a 45 mm diameter. It’s a split second chronograph which would come in handy if you were… let’s see… racing Ferrari’s!

The watch we have is in immaculate condition and comes with the presentation box.

1965 Vintage Rolex Chronograph 6238 Pre-Daytona

December 19th, 2010 Comments off

We get a lot of vintage watches at WatchBrokers.com but this 1965 vintage Rolex chronograph 6238 is one of the nicest I’ve seen.

This was was made from the start of the 1960s to 1967 in Stainless Steel, 14K and 18K Gold, the Rolex chronograph ref. 6238 is the last of the Rolexes with a smooth bezel and graduated scale printed on dial.

It’s nice in that the design is modern, sporty and casual. It has a vintage look but its also with the times.

This watch is widely considered the precursor to the Daytona, among collectors it is known as the Pre-Daytona.

The watch we have is in excellent condition for its age and has been recently serviced and includes the service papers.

We are brokering this amazing collection of watches. The owner doesn’t want to break up the set and wants to do a single large transaction. Enjoy the post and contact me directly if you are interested in placing a bid.

  1. Brequet Messidor Tourbillion- Named in honor of A. L. Breguet and his patent, it features a mystery tourbillon cage mounted on sapphire discs, giving the impression that the tourbillon is floating. Breguet patented its ‘floating’ tourbillon on the same day, which more than 200 years ago, was the 7th Messidor of year IX (June 26, 1801) of the French Republican Calendar. Named after the Latin word messis meaning ‘harvest’, Messidor was the tenth month in the French Republican Calendar, which starts June 19 or June 20. It also represented the first month of the summer quarter (mois d’été). This calendar was proposed during the French Revolution (1789-1799), and subsequently used by the French government for 12 years from late 1793.

Extended, they enable the UR-202 to display the time across a large easy-to-read, dial. Retracted, they allow for a very wearable and comfortably sized case; thus providing the wearer with the best of both worlds.  The UR-202 is also the world’s first wristwatch featuring an innovative new winding system regulated by compressing air utilizing minature turbines.

Trilogy of Time- Together with Dr. Ludwig Oechslin, UN produced an astronomical wristwatch, the Astrolabium, which amazed the public when it was presented in 1985, only two years after Rolf Schnyder took over the helm. Three years later, the Planetarium followed, and in 1992 the Tellurium completed the “Trilogy of Time”, which has achieved a nearly mythical status in the world of horology.  Only 100 made

1968 Rolex OP Milgauss 1019 Automatic Watch

October 29th, 2010 Comments off

You can learn a lot more than just the time of day from watches. For instance, I didn’t know that gauss was a term used to measure a magnetic field. I did know that mil was latin for 1000, though.

The Rolex Milgauss was thus aptly named as it can withstand a magnetic flux density of 1,000 gauss.

This is a rare and very collectible watch as buyers in the 1960s who worked in power plants, medical facilities and research labs apparently didn’t think the feature was as important as Rolex headquarters thought it was. In other words, Rolex didn’t make that many of them.

The Milgauss we have is in excellent condition, works perfectly and has an elegant yet classical design. It’s very clean in appearance with the red MILGAUSS on the face and the red tip on the second hand giving it just enough attitude to pleasure the owner.

Cartier Pasha De Cartier 2111 solid yellow gold

September 15th, 2010 Comments off

Talk about a watch that’s worth its weight in gold. The Cartier Pasha De Cartier 2111 Chronograph is heavy and it feels good.

Here’s a little knowledge for you. A Pasha is an individual with military authority in countries like Egypt, Turkey and Morocco. It was the Pasha of Marrakech (a tourist town in western Morocco) that commissioned the first Cartier Pasha in 1933. He wanted a watch that was suitable for swimming. Thus, the Pasha De Cartier is one of the earliest water resistant wristwatches.

This watch has 37 jewels; a huge amount for those that don’t know. It has a white Guilloche dial with gold hour markers and blue luminescent hands.

It has a strong and sturdy design that makes me think of the Arch de Triumph in Paris, a monument that has surely had its share of Cartier watches visit it.

This is not an inexpensive watch but fortunately, on the after market, it can be bought for considerably less than you would spend on a new one. If it’s your thing, reach out to us and we’ll work a deal.

The watch we have comes complete with the box and papers.

IWC Portuguese Chronograph Rattrapante 3712 Platinum Case

September 8th, 2010 Comments off

My business partner Ryan Steel loves IWC Schaffhausen watches and I’m beginning to see why after studying the IWC Portuguese Chronograph Rattrapante 3712 with the platinum casing.

For those of you that don’t know a rattrapante is a double chronograph so it has two separate stopwatch mechanisms. This is better than a flyback chronograph which uses a single button for stopping, resetting and restarting.

We get IWCs in nearly daily and none of them have been as elegant and worthy of a blog post as this one. I’m partial to platinum anyway which helps but the clean white face encased in smooth platinum mesmerizes me when I gaze at it.

I also really like the blue leather strap. It adds an element of fashion to the classy that already exists.

The watch we have comes complete with box and papers and is in excellent condition.

Versace 01ASC9D009 40mm Ceramic Men’s Watch

September 6th, 2010 Comments off

While a Giovani Versace 01ASC9D009 40mm Ceramic Men’s watch may not appeal to an avid watch collector, it does have value and a place in our inventory. It might also have a place on your wrist if you are young and fashionable enough to pull it off.

The ceramic is shinny and has a look-at-me look to it without the expense of real bling read:diamonds.

I’d be lying if I said I was never a fashion whore myself. I’ve walked into a few Versace stores but always had my eyes on the belts and never giving much thought to the items in the showcase.

That changes now. I’m going to have to check out their newest lines. Honestly, if you are looking for a nice watch around only 1,000 bucks, it’s not a bad option. If I was ten years younger and into the club scene I’d buy it myself.

The watch we have is in excellent condition and comes complete with box and papers.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 18k Yellow Gold Exclusive Piquet Caliber 3120

September 1st, 2010 Comments off

Audemars and Piquet families have been on the board of the Audemars Piquet watch company since its inception in 1875. That family commitment shows in both their style and their quality.

There watches have become more modern with the times, note the heavy feeling octagon share of their Royal Oak series, yet have retained their classic feel, never straying too far to the left. That’s no easy accomplishment.

The Audemars Piquet Royal Oak 18k yellow gold exclusive Piquet caliber 3120 exemplifies that statement. It’s both trendy and conservative simultaneously.

The watch we have even comes with cuff links. I’ve included the pictures.

Cvstos or Custos Challenge Chrono 577 Automatic Tonneau shaped

August 31st, 2010 Comments off

The Cvstos or Custos Challenge Chrono 577 Automatic Tonneau shaped watch is as big to wear as it is to say. Incidentally, Cvstos is pronounced the same way you would say Jasque Cousteau’s last name.

It’s aptly named the challenge because I’d challenge you to find a watch that signifies strength and fortitude in the wearers personality more than this one.

The images here don’t do the rose gold justice. If you aren’t a fan of yellow gold, don’t discount rose gold. It’s got a completely different look and personality and is much more versatile than its yellow cousin.

The skeleton face and rubber strap have a way of making this elegant timepiece look just as casual as it is professional.

This is a great watch and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a big bold skeleton faced piece. The watch we have comes inclusive of box and papers.
